EBerryStudio, the sculpting powerhouse behind upcoming independent lines like Rise of Nexus and N.U.K.E.S., is preparing to launch its own highly anticipated line, Quantum Veil Operatives (QVO). The creator recently posted a technical “behind the scenes” look at the core of the new figure line: a completely re-engineered O-Ring articulation system designed for maximum action and durability.
This Quantum Veil Operatives O-Ring announcement confirms that while the figures retain the nostalgic, retro aesthetic of classic O-ring toys, their internal mechanics have been entirely rebuilt to meet modern collector standards.
The O-Ring is Evolving: Mechanical Upgrades
The core focus of the QVO design is addressing the common weaknesses found in vintage O-ring construction, specifically, limited posing, durability issues, and difficulty in disassembly. EBerryStudio has made four key mechanical upgrades:
1. The End of Rivets
In a move perfect for the customization community, the QVO design completely eliminates metal rivets. This choice not only simplifies the assembly process but is explicitly noted as a benefit for customizers and commission artists, who can now disassemble and reassemble the figure with ease, without having to drill out pins.
2. High-Friction Shoulders
A major pain point in older O-ring designs was the tendency for arms to droop when holding heavy accessories. The Quantum Veil Operatives O-Ring design solves this using a two-part pin-hinge system in the shoulders. This innovation creates high friction, effectively locking poses firmly in place. This solid grip is essential for allowing figures to hold their “heavy weapons and massive Chrono-Forge Neon energy effects” without sagging.
3. Dynamic Ball-Joint Head
Moving beyond the limited swivel of many vintage figures, the QVO head uses a simple, effective ball-joint system. This ensures quick, easy head swaps (crucial for troop building and character variants) while also allowing for dynamic posing and intense character expression, vastly increasing the figure’s emotional range.
4. Snap-Fit Wrists and Ankles
The wrist and ankle articulation has been streamlined into a simple, durable snap-fit system. This articulation supports wide, powerful stances and eliminates floppy joints, giving the figures a solid foundation for action poses.
A New Machine for the O-Ring Revolution
EBerryStudio emphasizes that due to these mechanical changes, the Quantum Veil Operatives O-Ring system is NOT compatible with vintage O-ring figures. This is intentional; it is a dedicated, whole new machine built for the modern collector.
O-ring fans should stay tuned as the company plans to reveal the first test prints soon, which will showcase the rock-solid durability and full posing capability of this advanced design ahead of its imminent Kickstarter launch.
