Ramen Toy has officially confirmed that the MaKiNa Switchblade is currently in development. And the vintage collector community all sang hallelujah!

For fans of the 1980s “Mobile Armored Strike Kommand” (M.A.S.K.) aesthetic, this isn’t just a simple reissue, it’s a fundamental reimagining of one of the most iconic “bad guy” vehicles in toy history.

The “Missing Link” Approach to Design

In their announcement, Ramen Toy noted that the MaKiNa Switchblade will follow a design philosophy similar to Takara Tomy’s popular “Missing Link” Transformers line.

For the uninitiated, the “Missing Link” concept takes the original vintage silhouettes and scales but injects them with modern-day articulation:

  • Articulated Figures: Moving beyond the “stiff-legged” pilots of the 80s.
  • Hidden Engineering: Maintaining the classic look while adding ball joints, butterfly shoulders, and improved transformation tolerances.
  • Kenner Compatibility: The vehicle will remain in the traditional Kenner scale, ensuring it fits perfectly alongside your original 1980s collection.

A Look Back: The Legacy of the 1985 Switchblade

To understand why the Ramen Toy MaKiNa Switchblade is such a pivotal release, we have to look back at the original Kenner masterpiece released in 1985.

Driven by the villainous leader of V.E.N.O.M., Miles Mayhem, the original Switchblade was a marvel of its time. It transformed from a sleek, blue helicopter into a supersonic jet with the press of a single button. However, as beloved as the original was, it suffered from “hollow” plastic syndrome, limited pilot articulation, and landing gear that often broke under the weight of playtime.

Ramen Toy’s MaKiNa version aims to fix these 40-year-old grievances. By utilizing high-grade materials and reinforced transformation hinges, the new Switchblade will offer the premium feel that adult collectors demand today. It will do this without losing the soul of the vintage toy.

Release Information

The Ramen Toy MaKiNa Switchblade is currently in the active development phase. Given Ramen Toy’s track record with the “Makina” and “Gullwing” projects, collectors can expect a high-quality product. It will bridge the gap between nostalgia and modern toy technology.

We will continue to monitor the development of this project. If you are looking to reclaim your childhood without the “clunky” limitations of 1985 tech, the MaKiNa Switchblade is the one to watch.
