BigBadWorkShop dropped a major announcement on social media, teasing a collaboration with a true industry icon. The post featured a simple yet incredibly exciting message: “BigBadWorkShop presents the legendary Larry Hama! Stay tuned for updates.”
For anyone who grew up collecting military action figures or reading comic books, that name carries immense weight. I attended JoeFest and witnessed the excitement firsthand when the full details behind this teaser came to light. This is not just a standard license acquisition; it is a full-blown tribute to the grandfather of modern military toy lore. The collaboration is materializing as an official BigBadWorkShop Larry Hama Action Figure in the popular 1/12 scale, alongside an entirely new original line called Fury Force.
Bringing a Legend to the Action Figure Shelf
Larry Hama is best known as the creative force who shaped the personalities, backstories, and file cards for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero back in the 1980s. While major corporate brands have occasionally paid small nods to his massive contributions, an independent studio is finally giving him the ultimate honor: his very own premium, fully articulated 6-inch action figure.
I love seeing independent companies give creators their flowers while they can still appreciate them. The upcoming BigBadWorkShop Larry Hama Action Figure depicts the legendary writer and artist in a highly detailed format, complete with impressive articulation that matches the high standard established by BigBadWorkShop’s previous releases, such as their popular Operation: Monster Force series. For fans of classic military toys, having a 1/12 scale figure of the man who literally wrote the book on military toy storytelling is a dream come true.
If you have been following our booth tours on Instagram, you have already seen this version in a fully realized prototype. (see below)
The initial response from collectors across social media has been overwhelmingly positive. The opportunity to own a high-quality figure of Hama alongside the characters from his lost history is generating massive buzz. I will be tracking this project closely as pre-order dates, pricing, and digital sculpt accessories are officially locked in. Stay tuned right here to IndependentToys.news for more updates on this groundbreaking project as they develop.
