Background characters are finally stepping into the spotlight. BigBadWorkShop has officially introduced its newest endeavor, the NPC (Non-Playable Characters) line. Designed in a standard 1/12 scale, this series aims to fill the glaring void on toy shelves by giving collectors the everyday citizens, background extra archetypes, and scene-builders needed to make pop-culture displays feel fully alive.
To kick off the debut, the team unveiled the initial roster alongside BigBadLaunchPad, a brand-new interactive crowdfunding platform that puts funding and stretch-goal decisions directly into the hands of the collecting community.
Meeting the First Wave of World-Builders
Instead of focusing on iconic superheroes or main villains, the NPC line provides the world-building connective tissue for toy photography and dioramas. Each figure stands roughly six inches tall, features over 20 points of articulation, and arrives fully loaded with thematic accessories, swap-out hands, and alternate portraits:
- SCHS Cheerleader Team Captain: Brings high-energy sideline spirit to superhero battles or high school drama displays. She arrives complete with alternate facial portraits, extra hands, a megaphone, a smartphone, snacks, and personal accessories.
- Mob Boss: Every fictional city needs organized crime pulling the strings. This figure includes a suit setup, briefcase, money bags, a walking cane, a pistol, and a randomly packed “Mob Cat”—because someone in the criminal underworld has to keep an eye on things.
- News Anchor (Prime Time): Ready to report live on whatever alien invasion or superhero brawl breaks out in your collection. He comes equipped with a news microphone, press pass, broadcast notes, coffee cup, pizza slice, donuts, and alternative head sculpts.
- SWAT Commander: Essential for tactical maneuvers, police standoffs, and high-stakes superhero interventions. He features heavy tactical body armor attachments, specialized weaponry, gear pouches, and dynamic blast effects.
A New Crowdfunding Model: BigBadLaunchPad
Alongside the figure reveal comes the official rollout of BigBadLaunchPad. Created to give collectors a direct voice in the manufacturing process, the platform allows backers to track project milestones, vote on potential features, and fund production directly.
Through the LaunchPad platform, early backing unlocks “Bigger & Badder” stretch goals. As funding milestones are hit across the line, additional accessories, such as bonus alternate portraits, varied hairstyles, extra weapons, and environmental gear, are permanently added to the figures’ production specs.
By shifting decision-making power to toy fans, the platform promises a direct line between community interest and physical production. Pre-orders for Wave 1 of the NPC figures are officially open, giving backers immediate control over how expansive this universe becomes.
