Independent toy making continues to thrive on crowdfunding, giving creators the room to build unique properties that traditional retail passes over. Wada Toy is jumping into the ring with their debut campaign, Scales and the Mutant Rising Series 1, bringing dynamic retro flair straight to backer feeds.
Designed to blend classic 80s/90s playability with modern production standards, this new lineup delivers 5-inch action figures paired with custom vehicles. If you grew up on Saturday morning creature features and plastic combat vehicles, this campaign hits right in the sweet spot.
What Is Scales and the Mutant Rising Series 1?
Wada Toy designed this debut line as an homage to the classic action figure sagas of yesteryear, focusing on character-driven designs, distinct factions, and high-replay-value vehicles.
Instead of jumping directly to massive 1/12 scale formats, Wada Toy opted for a compact 5-inch form factor. This scale keeps price points accessible while giving collectors room to build massive dioramas or shelf displays without running out of real estate.
Key Features of Series 1
- 5-Inch Scale Figures: Sculpted with vintage charm, sporting crisp paint applications and battle-ready articulation.
- Vehicles Built for Play: Series 1 introduces scaled vehicles built specifically to carry the figures into battle, complete with retro-inspired play features.
- Original Lore: A brand-new universe focusing on mutated warriors, distinct faction rivalries, and combat scenarios.
The Importance of Independent Crowdfunding Matters for Toy Fans
Big-box toy aisles are increasingly dominated by safe, legacy brand licenses. Independent efforts like Scales and the Mutant Rising offer fresh intellectual properties created directly by toy fans for toy fans.
By backing campaigns on platforms like Kickstarter, collectors directly fund tooling, sculpt development, and factory production runs. Early support often unlocks stretch goals that expand character rosters, add extra weapons packs, or upgrade paint finishes for the final product line.
